B/O. Shyam Kumar was born on 17.12.2017, with a birth weight of 3.2 Kg. At merely 6 hours of life, he was noticed to be struggling for breath and turning blue. He was rushed to Lotus Hospitals for Women & Children, Lakdikapul, Hyderabad. Upon arrival in the Emergency Room, he was found to be gasping for breath, totally limp and blue in color.

He was immediately placed on ventilatory life support and stabilized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by the Newborn Medical Team. He suffered from serious medical disorders, notably Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Shock, Acute Renal Failure and a host of other metabolic complications. After meticulous care, on Dec 22nd, 2017 he was successfully taken off ventilator support and thereafter made satisfactory progress and a good recovery.

The baby's father, Mr.Shyam Kumar Baraily is a serving soldier in the Indian Army, as a Sepoy of the Gorkha Rifle Unit and Sirmoor Regiment, posted at the Mehdipatnam Indian Army garrison. During the critical phase of his baby’s care, he expressed his inability to pay the infant’s baby's hospital bills as his financial resources were very limited. The treating consultant neonatologist at Lotus Hospitals brought this issue to the notice of Praanam Children's Foundation.

Being a special parent for us all, as he serves in the armed forces, Praanam readily agreed to fund the treatment expenses to a good extent. The way we see it, everyone should do their bit to help our soldiers who guard our borders and let us live and sleep in safety, sacrificing their own comforts and working in very harsh and inhospitable conditions. We felt honoured to extend our support to a guardian of our nation.

Following extubation from the ventilator, the little one made good progress overcoming all odds and hurdles. We think of him as the 'little soldier’ who fought bravely and won the battle for his life.

Praanam Children's Foundation wishes him an excellent and safe future ahead....
